Just couldn't believe the ruckus over David Koch's recent comments about breastfeeding in public (though I was relieved that no media outlet resorted to that ol' standby "storm in a D-cup" when describing it). The episode certainly did give new meaning to the term "freedom of expression", eh?
The fact that so many chicks with sprogs were so outraged about what he said is another sign that the idiotic hair-trigger bolshevism usually associated with childless leftie feminists has now gone mainstream. While some of them are no doubt lesbian couples a la Penny Wong and her significant other, I assume the majority would have done things the, er, old fashioned way.
And I pity the men in those unions. They'd have to be treading on eggshells the whole time. I mean, if their partners go ballistic over some TV personality's quite innocuous observation about breastfeeding, then you've gotta wonder how they would react to an unwanted answer to the question "Does my bum look big in this?".
But the general over-reaction isn't nearly as much of a worry as some of the specific statements of one of the women who weighed in on the issue:
The Australian Breastfeeding Association slammed Koch's remarks but said it was an opportunity to educate the Australian public about the need to support breastfeeding mothers.
"It is an opportunity to say (Koch's) comments are illegal: you can't discriminate against any mother at any time," spokesperson Meredith Laverty said.
Which just goes to show there are a lot of thick, totalitarian types out there who must be pleased as punch about Nicola Roxon's creepy plan to make offending people against the law.
The censorious Ms Laverty then added this odd observation:
"(Babies) just don't choose when they're hungry. We don't ask people to duck off into the toilet to have their lunch. I thought our society was past this."
Well, no. That would be extremely unhygeinic, apart from anything else. That said, I'm sure members of one extreme minority group, coprophagists, would beg to differ. Hell, they'll prolly be the next group arcing up about how they're routinely discriminated against!
Gawd. Imagine what kind of hijinks would occur at a demo held by these crazy cats. And what would we call them? The bolshie breast-feeders call themselves lactivists, so what would these be, craptivists? Still, at least they wouldn't be scowling, since they'd all be sporting shit-eating grins ...
Often intemperate and sometimes foam-flecked rants about politics, current events and popular culture by Perth blogger and very occasional standup Matt Hayden (obviously not the cricketer). Your problem if you can't spot the sit-down comedy.

Monckton's Graves' disease still funny to ABC warmists
Rob Oakeshott has been diagnosed with Graves' disease. Andrew Bolt reminds us that this incurable illness also afflicts Lord Christopher Monckton and is the cause of his bulging eyes -- a physical trait that caring leftist, warmist folk find utterly hilarious.
The Age even ran a photo of the climate change skeptic with a headline likening him to a primate. As Tim Blair noted at the time, it was the kind of flouting of journalistic standards that Media Watch should have been interested in (but wasn't, of course).
That was two years ago now. But nasty, witless leftists on their ABC are still making fun of this aspect of Lord Monckton's appearance. (And they would, wouldn't they? They can't beat his arguments.)
During the last episode of the tragically lame TV game show Randling, Chaser boy Chris Taylor quipped (for want of a better word) that a shot of a Tarsier (a small nocturnal primate with very large eyes) was Lord Monckton's passport photo.
You'll see it at the 19 minute mark.
Sure, it was just a pathetic attempt at humour, in a show full of them. But it revealed an attitude. Everything these people do is either mean-spirited, unoriginal, or both.
Hell, the show itself is clearly a vastly inferior copy of QI with a couple of structural changes thrown in. And Taylor's gag was ripped off that Fairfax cover from two years ago.
The whole situation is so sad it's almost funny. Not so much a tragicomedy, though -- more of a commie-tragedy.

Alexander Lebedev does a Ron Casey
Everyone in Australia knows of the infamous punch-up between Ron Casey and Normie Rowe that was broadcast live on the Midday Show back in 1991. I was actually one of the few people who saw it live and the event was seared into my brain.
I was living in a grungy share house type situation in Northcote in Melbourne and had just turned on the TV. I didn't choose that show. It just happened right there in front of me. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Recently, a similarly dramatic live TV stoush has occurred in which an older grey haired bloke landed a punch against a younger, more hirsute opponent. The man taking the Ron Casey role was Alexander Lebedev, Russian billionaire.
Note the similarities with the original, Australian event two decades ago. Spooky, eh?
Perhaps there is a grand design to human events after all. Hell (and heaven!), maybe there is even a God. And if so, what is he trying to tell us?
Er, be kind to senior citizens? God doesn't like beards? (No, that can't be right.)
Stuffed if I know.
