Labor's six point Newspoll bounce to be quickly erased?

Got a shock when I was watching the teev last night. Saw a newsflash saying that Labor had surged six points in the latest Newspoll. I hope this is just an aberration like some of the ones that have occurred before and that subsequent polls will show the Coalition still way ahead.

But if it's not and Labor have genuinely gained ground, I suspect it's got very little to do with anything they've been saying or doing. It's probably just a bit of collective amnesia on the part of the electorate. With many pols on hols, as well as many journos, there's been little to remind us just how godawful this government actually is.

The AWU scandal in particular has faded from public consciousness in recent weeks. But when Parliament resumes and Julie Bishop can resume needling Gillard on her involvement in it people will remember what a dodgy, vicious character the PM is. Her party's recent poll bounce will be be erased for sure then, I reckon.

What do you think?

  1. We shouldn't be relying on democracy to get rid of Labor. The majority of the people are asleep. We should be arming ourselves and planning secession. Democracy is not legitimate when it infringes our individual liberties.

    1. And who do you plan to secede from Nonny? And more precisely how do you plan to do so? Arming ourselves with intent to do what? That is whacko talk. We have a democracy and it is a bloody good one even if it is being abused by the Red Witch. We get our say at election time the way it should be - by the ballot box. Australians have died defending our right to be whackers at times and what you suggest is not in the vein of their efforts and sacrifice.

  2. And the idea that the Coalition will reverse what Labor has done, is a a pipe dream. They never have. They simply hold the fort and make themselves appear to be something different. Then they wait for Labor to get back in to continue everything in the same direction.

    1. And a good current example is Timid Ted in Victoria. Boy have we been let down here.

    2. I think they'll try to reverse a lot. But they'll find that difficult because of course Labor will resist, as will the Greens.

And they'll only have so much time to make changes. Then there's the fact that Labor have made their legislation so difficult to change in a lot of cases (eg carbon tax).

  3. I do agree that the coalition are pretty hopless at reversing the nonscence. They will reverse the carbon tax thougb or will be hunted down by the voters!

    1. Yes, doing that will be very high on their list of priorities. But it will be very difficult for a variety of reasons.

  4. Matt, I agree for the reasons you outlined, the latest Newspoll has to be an aberration. No thinking Australian could possibly cast a vote for the ALP goons after the damage they have inflicted on this country's economy. Honesty and integrity must stand for something, surely! Perhaps Newspoll is only interested in targeting numpties!

Stand by for further bulletins regarding "I did nothing wrong" Gillard and the AWU fiasco! Wait till parliament resumes and the handful of investigative journalists we have are back in harness.

As for the Coalition rebuilding the country and fixing the stuff-ups. It will take years of hard work. We must remember that and be patient.
